Who we are
The Filipino Leadership Alumni Network, or FLAN for short (and affectionately called that because of our love for Leche Flan), was founded in March 2025 by Filipinos who are alumni of various universities and Filipino Student Associations (FSA) in Georgia. Each co-founder has their own story that led to the creation of FLAN; however, the common thread among all of us was our desire to create a space for young professionals like us. FLAN aims to bridge the generational gaps between collegiate and established Filipino associations, address succession issues for older Filipino groups, connect young professional Filipinos to opportunities created by other organizations, and develop programs for its membership base.
Story of Us
It started with an idea, whenever there was a gathering or Filipino event in the community, our founders shared the feeling of a lack in our community spaces for those of us our age range. We wanted to change that and continue on what FSA and our prior experiences from college gave us.
Who do we seek as FLAN Members?
Filipinos and non-Filipinos are welcome to learn more about the Filipino and Filipino-American experience through social events hosted by FLAN, as we believe that former FSA non-Filipino members might use these opportunities to reconnect with their alumni peers socially. However, there will be a more targeted effort to foster and nurture the next generation of Filipinos by connecting them with older, more established Filipinos in careers that may interest the younger generation, especially through mentorship.
*Certain programming will be limited to Filipino Alumni due to the nature of some programming meant to connect Filipinos with other Filipinos in Georgia, ex. Mentorships
We are for the community and supported by the Community
What sets FLAN apart is that we are not affiliated with any university; it is created by the community—a space made by us for us. Our group is supported by the people we serve. Our self-preservation depends on our people, our bayanihan. We started up with the support of the Asian American Women’s Political Initiative (AAWPI) and are fiscally sponsored by Asian American Voices for Education (AAVed).
